USGLC Board Member Aaron Williams President’s Choice for Peace Corps Director
President Obama has nominated Aaron Williams to become the next Peace Corps Director. Mr. Williams is an excellent choice to lead the Peace Corps as he served as a volunteer himself in the Dominican Republic from 1967 to 1970, and has an extensive background in international development.
Mr. Williams serves on the Board of the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign, and he is currently the Vice President of International Business Development with RTI International—a USGLC member. He was also the Executive Vice President at the International Youth Foundation, and had a distinguished career with USAID where he earned the USAID Distinguished Career Service Award and the Presidential Award for Distinguished Service twice. He served as the Mission Director for USAID in South Africa, and he has experience developing assistance programs in other parts of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
The Peace Corps is an important part of raising the image of the United States abroad. With almost 8,000 “mini-ambassadors” serving around the world, the Peace Corps shows the best of America at the grassroots level in developing countries. Peace Corps volunteers work at the local level to improve the education, environment, and health of the communities in which they live.
When Mr. Williams is confirmed, the USGLC looks forward to working with him in his new position to further elevate development and diplomacy around the world.
